Phou Khao Khouay Challenge

Be ready to challenge the trails of the national Park with trekking, cycling and kayaking! The National Protected Area of Phou Khao Khouay is the nearest National Park to Vientiane. Besides some great scenery and beautiful waterfalls, the NPA offers trails where tropical butterflies and orchids line the way through forests that are home to rare large mammals such as Sun Bear, Tiger and Elephants.

Approximately: 4.5  hour transfer, 45 min cycling, 2 hours trekking & 1.5 hours kayaking

Day 1: Vientiane  > Ban Hatkhai
We will be transferred from Vientiane to Ban Hatkhai, where we start cycling to Tad Xay Waterfall. If you love cycling, there is an option to start cycling already from the main road, thus cycling longer! The ride offers some great views over the Nam Mang River. We will enjoy picnic lunch at the magnificent waterfall, Tad Xay and have some time for swimming. Then, we will start our trek under an  evergreen canopy. The trek continues until our kayaking starting point where we kayak to Ban Hatkhai. We return to Vientiane from Ban Hatkhai

Approximately: 4.5 hour transfer, 45 min, 2 hours trekking & 1.5 hours kayaking

In the wet season, the trek continues to the Houay Xai stream.

In the dry season, we have to trek further to Nam Mang for our kayaking starting point.
